masterpiece
This week I visited Masterpiece London. Angela and I met outside Sloane Square tube station on a beautiful sunny Tuesday, and walked to the Royal Hospital Chelsea.
It was my first visit to the fair, and it was great to be going with Angela, who was spending the day on the Adrian Sassoon stand.
Calling these beautifully designed ‘rooms’ a stand sounds wrong. I know it’s a temporary building, but it felt so solid except for one occasion when I was zooming in on some earrings in a case, and they began to swing back and forth. I think I sort of backed away slowly…
Adrian Sassoon’s room was full of such beautiful things, Angela’s work included of course.
I worked my way around the fair, trying to be methodical and not miss anything, and it slightly blew my mind.
There were pieces I have only seen in books. I am thinking especially of some of the jewellery, from Dali and Arnaldo Pomodoro on the Didier stand to Lalique pieces at Wartski.
It was an eye opener for me. Museum quality pieces, both man made and natural (the stone specimens from Fine Minerals International were gorgeous) for sale, and just to be enjoyed by visitors like me. Yep, I did a bit of fantasy shopping. Umm, if I could have just one thing…
I hope you enjoy the photos, although I realise I committed a bit of a sin, not recording all the artists names, or galleries. I was just too happy running about…
